So it's not tomorrow sorry about that. Today I wanted to write about both finding a muse and having some writers block.
When I first started writing it flowed only because I had a good chunk planned out. I knew where I wanted to take my story but then it started to stray from the preset path, which isn't bad. It's normal for your story to change it's like any other creative project.
Take my harmony class, one of the projects we have is to set a poem to an original melody. When I first wrote out the melody it was very fluid but it didn't fit the poems message. At least not the one that I wanted to show. So I did what anyone would do. I rewrote the melody so it fit the poem. It wasn't fun but it was needed.
I like writing this story but after the first few chapters I began to deviate. I remember taking a page that took me about a week to write, I know what you're thinking, "It took you a week to write ONE page?" Yes, yes it did. But I took that page and I deleted it. To me the character was to flat to make the reader want to read it so I took it out and rewrote it. After I did that small change I smashed out the rest of the chapter and I liked what resulted from it. I allowed the reader to see a different side to the characters and taught them a little bit more about the main character.
Now I'm not saying that every time you do this it's going to result in an amazing amount of work to come pouring out of your mind onto the paper, no it's going to take a lot of time to write something that your proud of. But sometimes you get this moment where it hits you and you can just write for hours and hours and you're going to be just as proud of that work that took you an hour to write as that one page that took you a week.
Trial and error. The most tried and true method to any practice.
Well, till tomorrow. Hopefully.
